Literary Showcase

Novels

James' first novella, Vulnerabilia (2023), was acclaimed by Kirkus Review as "Offbeat, effortlessly wild, and tightly woven." After being shortlisted for the Vivian Darkbloom Award, James was described as "A potent blend of Vonnegut and Nabokov with a dash of Mark Leyner, yet wholly unique for our age. Grand comedy about Americans' rampant and destructive addictions to entertainment, celebrity, and violence" by Tom Reardon.

Poetry

James is a co-editor of poetry at Young Country journal.

Screenplays

James is the screenwriter of several films including Something About the Way the World Works and forthcoming Pirate's Spaghetti based on the true events of his experiences caregiving for his brother's experience with cerebral palsy. He has also adapated multiple novels, comic books, and children's books for TV and cinema.

Graphic Novels

After working with multiple independent comic creators as an editor, James is currently creating an anthology with comic author James DesChamps. His long-form graphic novel series, Towers and absurdist satire Doctor Velociraptor, are both due for release in 2026.

Journalism

James writes about the intersections of mental health and music (*he is a clinically licensed psychotherapist for the past 12 years and, after 7 years at Phoenix VA, he opened a private practice; he also taught History of Rock n' Roll at Penn State, and plays guitar and bass.) Short Story

James is a Pushcart Prize nominated short story author. He has been published in Beloit Fiction Journal, Paumanok Review, Monon Street Collective, and Calliope.

Editing

James has 25 years of editing experience. His most recent editing work will be for All I Really Need To Know I Learned from Punk and Hardcore slated for release on December 10th, 2025. He also edits at Oceaniacom for the comics division.

Residencies

James has been writer in residence at Vermont Studio Center and is recently a permanent writer in residence at Cattletrack Ranch, AZ.
